Hand-Folded Perfection: First Day Cover Envelopes for Vanuatu & Pitcairn Islands
When Latitude Fulfilment needed a print production partner, they came to us for one reason: quality that collectors would accept — and nothing less. Over an 11-year period, we produced more than 100 First Day Cover envelope editions for the Philatelic Bureau of Vanuatu and the Pitcairn Islands. These are no ordinary envelopes — they’re precision print pieces that mark the first day of a stamp’s issue and are collected worldwide.
Each edition required between 600 and 900 units, printed in full colour (CMYK) on 170gsm Silk Matt stock. We started by printing flat sheets, which were then die-cut and hand assembled into envelopes. Why hand assembled? Because when the gripper used for mechanical assembly left even a slight dent on one edge, we knew it wouldn’t pass the scrutiny of serious collectors. So we adjusted, folding and glueing every single envelope by hand, 100+ editions worth.
This wasn’t about volume. It was about craftsmanship and doing it right, every time.
